Play Therapy is a form of therapy utilized generally for children ages 3 to 12 years old. At Sigma, we recognize that children express their unconscious thoughts, conflicts, and emotions more naturally through play. Play therapy differs from regular play in the sense that our therapists role is to help the child address and resolve their own problems in a safe and supportive environment using both directive and nondirective play therapy techniques. Our playroom contains a variety of toys and activities that replicate play opportunities that are real-life, aggressive, and creative expression such as dolls, puppets, furniture, blocks, play-dough, art materials, toy soldiers, boxing glove set, and sand. Through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways to relate to others.
